If the itches is accompanied by inflammation, there is usually a skin condition behind it. In particular, eczema and psoriasis cause this type of problem for many people.
Different itches can also be caused by an allergic reaction. In most cases, itching occurs after direct contact with the allergen. This could be pollen, metal, latex or pets.
Sometimes the cause of the itches is not found in the skin but in the internal organs. Most often, it is caused by lesions in the bile, kidneys or liver. Hormonal changes associated with pregnancy, menopause and menstruation can cause itching all over the body. Even medicines can trigger some sort of itches. It is a common side effect of antibiotics, psychotropic drugs, anti-hypertensives or anticoagulants. Itching most often has a harmless cause such as dry skin. External environmental factors such as sunlight, cold winter air or inadequate skin care can dry out the skin.
